Canada comes to Ecuador
Canada came to Ecuador a few years ago in the form of two ladies, Laurie Koepe and Marilyn Dryer. They visited all the FACES Ministry projects with their sister and cousin, long time SEMISUD Seminary supporter, Elaine Douglas from North Carolina. Laurie was so touched by what she saw here, that she went back to Saskatchewan and made a photo presentation of the FACES Ministry at her church, Kings’ Corner Church of God.
Well, we know how God works in mysterious ways. A friend of Laurie’s, Lynne Couzens was at that presentation, and God touched her heart with a desire to make a mission trip to Ecuador and meet the FACES Ministry children. One thing led to another, and Lynne influenced her husband, Murray, her friend , Sharon, and her husband, Jerry, to begin planning a trip to Ecuador. None of them had been on a missions trip before. Later, Roy, from their church, Father’s House, decided to join in.
Finally, after two years from the time the seed was planted to the time of harvest, the team of five precious Canadian brothers and sisters in Christ lived their dream to lock arms with the FACES Ministry to bless the children and staff. Their small church in Canada was able to raise over $4100. in offerings and donations. They bought children’s shoes, medical supplies, hygiene articles, towels…they paid to fix the broken items in our kitchen we use to cook the daily lunches for 40 children. They bought electrical items and paint, paint and more paint. Their goal was to paint the entire first floor of the FACES Ministry center and they did it! It took four days, but determination paid off.
Between painting duty, Lynne ministered to the children in the FACES child labor prevention program. Murray, Lynne, Sharon, Roy, and Jerry shared their testimonies at our Sunday evening church where we minister to the parents of the FACES children. Then again on Tuesday they ministered to the students of the New World Christian School, our high school for working adolescents.
Another dream was to bless our children with the opportunity to go on a field trip. Normally, the ministry budget doesn’t allow for frills, but thanks to the Father’s House Church, the younger kids enjoyed their first trip to Putt Putt, and the older kids took a trip to the ballet in Quito.
Those of us here at FACES were personally blessed by the team from Father’s House. It is amazing how God brings us together with his people from so far away to complete His work!
